Mobility Data Privacy Information

We are aware of concerns related to the use of mobile device (mobility) data and assuring that privacy is maintained. First, we emphasize that all data presented on this website is anonymized and aggregated to the county level. We have no information about specific individuals.

We use mobile device data from SafeGraph, which aggregates anonymized mobile device data and provides two products. We use the Social Distancing Metrics dataset (SDM) to document broad trends in where people are spending time. The SDMs are aggregated to the Census block group level. To enhance privacy, SafeGraph excludes census block group information if fewer than five devices visited an establishment in a month from a given census block group. We aggregate these block group measures up to the county by calculating the mean of the values of all census block groups within a county.

For more information and steps to opt-out of sharing your mobile device data and location, visit SafeGraph's privacy policy page.
